Ammonite

This ammonite had serpulid worm tubes growing on the outer edge of its shell. The ammonite eventually outgrew the worms, and returned to a normal growth pattern, although it continued to bulge out around the worm tubes. Microderoceras birchi is named after Colonel Thomas Birch, a friend of the famous fossil hunter Mary Anning.
