Ammonite

Additional images

Here is an ammonite from the Portland Limestone. Even though ammonites became extinct we know from their fossils that they were a very successful type of creature for millions of years. They lived all over the world, were adapted to all sorts of habitats and there were a great many of them living in the oceans.
