Dinosaur

Additional images

This collection of bones came from a juvenile Scelidosaur. They were described by Sir Richard Owen in the monograph ‘British Fossil Reptilians from the Oolitic Formations’ alongside the bones of a larger, adult specimen. The monograph title was changed in later editions. Owen coined the word ‘dinosaur’, and was instrumental in creating the Natural History Museum in London.
