Plant leaf

Impossibly perfect

This is a perfectly-preserved leaf from the Plant Beds of the Poole Formation, collected from the cliffs near Canford probably more than 100 years ago. Now that there is a sea wall in front of the cliffs, it is no longer possible to collect from this astonishing layer of rock. The clay is so fine that it has preserved the detail of the plant.
