Plant Fossil Wood

These fossil plant stems were found during the construction of the Weymouth Relief Road, in a layer of thin laminated siltstone. The stone is packed with identical plants, probably representing a flood event in which a whole swath of vegetation was washed from river banks and deposited in one go.
