Plant Fossil Wood

Wood is quite often found forming the core of limestone nodules, particularly in the Lower Jurassic rocks around Charmouth and Lyme Regis. The wood appears to ‘seed’ calcium carbonate, cementing the soft clays into a hard limestone nodule.
