Spangle

Purbeck Spangle – a unique stone

Spangle is Portland Limestone in which the shells have been replaced with blue calcite. It is only found at St Aldhelm’s Head Quarry, nowhere else in Dorset – or in the world for that matter! Cut and polished, it is one of the most decorative stones worked from Purbeck.
