Volunteer Your Time
Would you like to play a part in making sure that the Jurassic Coast is looked after, loved and celebrated today and for future generations?
Do you have some available time that you would like to put to use for the benefit of our incredible World Heritage Site?
Are you experienced in publishing, merchandise, project management or fundraising? Or are you a creative and inspirational “do-er” who wants some new challenges?
If you have expertise and professional that could benefit the Jurassic Coast, we really want to hear from you!
There are many different opportunities to volunteer in a variety of roles all along the Jurassic Coast, either directly with the Team or with our partners, such as the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre or the National Trust. If you have a passion for fossils, dinosaurs or the environment in general we would love to hear from you.
If you are interested in volunteering locally for an organisation that supports the management of the Jurassic Coast, then please have a look at Visitor Centres and Museums and contact the organisation directly. Our wonderful coastline is in such a great shape partly because of the contribution of these organisations.
Helping us shape the future
The Trust is a registered charity whose mission is to fund and inspire understanding and conservation of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. We are a small organisation but we have huge ambition and a significant role to play in the ongoing and future support of the Dorset and East Devon coastline. We believe that unlocking the passion and interest of the people who use the coastline is the very best way of ensuring it is well looked after for future generations.
We have recently developed a new strategy and have been awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund for our Jurassic Coast Community project. So this is a time of change, growth and modernisation for the Trust. We have lots of fantastic plans and projects that we are keen to get working on, but we need help to bring them to life.
We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are able to apply their skills and experience, and who are able to give their time, to making a big difference.
We are also looking for new Trustees to sit on our Board, who would be able to take responsibility for elements of our strategy and who have the time, skills and enthusiasm to offer leadership to our different projects and who can provide effective governance for our charity. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have general leadership and strategy skills, as well expertise in some of our key development areas of publishing, merchandise, fundraising and volunteer management.
It goes without saying that we expect all our volunteers – be they hands-on project volunteers or Trustees on our Board - to have a love of the Jurassic Coast and a commitment to its safeguarding and promotion.
Please see a list of the latest volunteer opportunities below.
Date: Starting ASAP
Duration: Should take approx. 3-4 days
Location: Lyme Regis to West Bay
The Jurassic Coast team are collaborating with First Bus Company to insert maps at bus shelters and stops between Lyme Regis and West Bay. We'd like a volunteer to take photos of all the stops on the route and to take notes about each stop - whether they're a shelter, a stand-alone stop etc.
As part of this role, we'd also like the volunteer to walk from each stop on the route to the South West Coast Path in order to test each route and determine the time it takes to reach the path.
Volunteers should be relatively fit and active and able to accurately record information.
We can pay all travel expenses and provide a camera for the photographic component if necessary.
