Can you imagine what it feels like to hold an object that is hundreds of millions of years old?
Or have you ever wondered about strange creatures that lived so long ago that they don’t even exist today? At the Jurassic Coast, we are passionate about spreading the awe and wonder of Earth Science through high quality learning and hands on experiences.
Although the best way to experience this is to get out onto the Jurassic Coast or visit a museum, sometimes this is not possible. If this is your dilemma, then our Big Jurassic Classroom Box of Rocks could be just what you need! Packed with amazing real fossil and rock specimens sourced from the Jurassic Coast, our school handling collections are designed to complement our range of lesson plans which can be downloaded free of charge along with many other classroom resources. The resources are suitable to use from Foundation all the way through to Key Stage 3 and can be used to inspire learning in Science, Art and Design, Geography, Maths and English.
The lending boxes are easily transportable by car and contain:
- A range of real rocks and fossils from the Jurassic Coast, each with their own fact cards.
- Trays of silicone moulds to make your own plaster-of-paris fossils such as ammonites and sharks teeth.
- A Fossil Dig Box that recreates the experience of hunting for fossils on Charmouth Beach.
- A set of Jurassic Coast Top Trumps Cards.
How to Borrow and Cost
Our lending boxes are located in host schools across Poole, Bournemouth, Dorset and East Devon and you can contact us at email@example.com to find the one nearest to you. They are available to schools for 2 weeks at a time for a small fee of £20 which is payable to the host school. To borrow the lending boxes, you contact the school directly and arrange a time directly with them for pick up and drop off.
In addition to our lending resources, we have a network of Jurassic Coast Ambassadors (community volunteers) who are spread out across Dorset and East Devon to support classroom learning and delivery.
