About

Beaminster Museum in West Dorset is a small museum of local history, which visitors from far and wide have declared "delightful" and "fascinating", with plenty to see and do for all ages. Beginning with our Jurassic fossils from internationally renowned Horn Park Quarry, the permanent collection at Beaminster Museum highlights all aspects of life and work in Beaminster and its surrounding villages since geological times. Six miles inland from Bridport, the Museum is home to an exhibition of mid-Jurassic fossils otherwise found only at the inaccessible clifftops of Burton Bradstock (near West Bay). Although the Horn Park Quarry National Nature Reserve, two miles outside Beaminster, is not normally open to the public, visits can be arranged in advance for groups. Please contact the Museum to arrange such a visit. Occasional Open Days are also advertised locally in advance. Whilst Beaminster Museum does not have its own refreshments facilities, the town centre has a wide choice of eateries, from cheap and cheerful welcoming cafes to national award-winning restaurants, so you can have an enjoyable visit to both the Museum and the town (yes, it is a town, not a village, as you will discover when you visit us!). A stair-lift enables access to the upper gallery, with use of provided wheelchair. Directions: A3066 Bridport to Yeovil. Turn onto B3163 Whitcombe Road towards Evershot and Dorchester. The Museum is 10 yards on left, but limited parking in immediate vicinity. For public parking, use either the Square, Beaminster for up to 2 hours, or Yarn Barton DT8 3EF. We are delighted to welcome visitors to see our collection of Jurassic fossils from Horn Park Quarry National Nature Reserve near Beaminster. Please see the Museum website for full details, opening days and times etc.
