“Look round and read great nature’s open book”

Durlston Country Park occupies a headland just south of Swanage. Within its grounds lie beautiful wildflower meadows, cliff-top walks, abandoned quarries, important seabird colonies and a castle. The castle was built by Victorian businessman George Burt and is the centre piece of his project to create a landscape shaped by a deep appreciation of nature. Scattered around the park are sculptures and carvings like the one quoted above, prompting visitors to consider their surroundings more deeply.

Exploring Durlston Country Park

Durlston offers much to explore and a recent renovation of the castle interior includes interactive displays about the geology and fossils of this part of the Jurassic Coast. Whether you’re looking for wonderful wildlife, dramatic sea views, woodland strolls, fantastic fossils or just a nice cuppa, Durlston Country Park hits the spot.
