Of course we’re biased and think you should spend all your time exploring the Jurassic Coast, but if you’re sat at home wondering what adventures to plan for 2024, here are some of our top reasons why you should visit the Jurassic Coast over the next 12 months.
The incredible beaches
As you might expect from one of Britain’s prettiest coastlines, there are some incredible beaches to visit along the Jurassic Coast. With a host of award winning options perfect for family trips to hidden bays and more, the beaches are great destinations, whatever the weather!
The fossil hunting
The Jurassic Coast is one of the most geologically fascinating places in the world and it’s also one of the most famous places for fossil hunting. Some places won’t let you remove pebbles or fossils from the region but others are happy for you to build up your collection. Or why not visit one of the many museums and buy some of the fossils they have found around the coastline? It’s a great way to learn more about what you can find!
The weather
Did you know most of the South West of England has its own micro climate which means it is a little warmer than elsewhere in the country? The Jurassic Coast has some of the highest sunshine hours in England and even the winters are more mild than other coastlines! You’ll still have to endure the unpredictable British weather, but at least it won’t be as cold as it could be!
Incredible food and drink
The Jurassic Coast sits across parts of Dorset and Devon, both of which are known for their incredible food and drink offerings. You’ll find incredible home grown drinks at the region’s microbreweries and distilleries, plus tantalising locally sourced menus at restaurants and cafes all over the coast – which is perfect after going for a walk around the beaches and following the coast path!
The amazing events
You might think of the West Country as being a quiet place to visit but there’s plenty of big events to change your mind taking place all year round! In Sidmouth there is the annual Folk Festival which has been going on for 70 years and elsewhere, you’ll find Camp Bestival which takes place on the Lulworth estate!
