You may have noticed a few changes to the Science part of the website, we are currently re-developing the Science & Heritage part of our website to make it easier for you to naviagate and find what you are looking for. This is an ongoing project that will be completed shortly but if you do have any suggestions, please let us know.
For the next phase of the Geo-Heritage Sustainability Study, we have been working on how we understand the functional setting of the World Heritage Site. We have been pulling together simple frameworks for how the Jurassic Coast acts as an interlinked and dynamic system in order to better understand which areas may be at risk.
Saskia entered the Geo-Heritage Sustainability Study into the Engineering Group of the Geological Society of London's annual Glossop Award and has been shortlisted. She will be presenting about the project at Burlington House in the coming weeks - fingers crossed.
Some of the team have been out monitoring some of the SSSI areas. As highlighted in our last update, we have recently been undertaking some fieldwork to help monitor the condition of import Earth science features within some of Dorset's coastal Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs). These kinds of features are assessed every few years to make sure they haven't been damaged. This time the location was Durlston Bay and Swanage looking at rocks that were laid down in lagoons and rivers in the early Cretaceous...and fortunately we had good weather for it!
We are working hard on the content for the next Jurassic Coast Collection newsletter, sign up here to see it when it comes out.
Last but not least, a massive THANK-YOU to Purbeck ice cream for funding our place at the Dorset County Show. It was a bit wet and muddy(!) but it was wonderful to speak to those people that did brave the weather and we couldn't have been there without the support of Purbeck ice cream.
