The Isle of Purbeck; Weymouth to Studland gives a very in-depth and scientific description of the geology of the cliffs and structures that dominate this beautiful coastline. The slightly more complicated geology behind the formations of such striking features, e.g. Old Harry Rocks, is explained effectively using clear diagrams, allowing it to be accessed by all regardless of previous learnings.
Particularly interesting within the book is the part on the Kimmeridge clay formation which provides both a source of oil and an abundance of beautifully preserved fossils. Other famous sights described include Lulworth Cove and the impressive Durdle Door. Overall this is an engaging read, full of breath taking formations and clever insights into some of the most impressive geology found along this coastline.
