Please note that all walks encompass rough terrain including some steep slopes or steps and uneven ground. Walking boots are essential for all walks, as well as a packed lunch and drink. The Undercliffs is a remote wilderness area with no access for emergency vehicles, so all participants must be physically fit and able to complete the walk, and must declare any relevant medical conditions when booking.

Undercliffs

Goat Island

Guided walk to Goat Island – SOLD OUT

Wednesday 19th June 2019

10am – 1pm, meeting at Stepps Lane, Axmouth

Visit Goat Island, perhaps the most famous part of the Undercliffs reserve. On Christmas Eve 1839 a massive section of cliff slid seaward in an event known as the ‘Great Landslip’, causing a chasm to form behind the landslide block which is now known as Goat Island. Take is some spectacular views, learn about your local landscape, chalk grassland management and the associated plants and animals, including some summer orchids.

Walk Notes: Some steep steps and uneven ground. Rough terrain. Walking boots essential. Bring a packed lunch and drink. You must be physically fit and able. Please declare any medical conditions when booking. Approximately 4 miles. No dogs.

The Crimean Seat

10am – 3pm, meeting at Pinhay House (near Lyme Regis), DT7 3RQ

Enjoy a walk that takes the humid woodland of the Undercliffs, a cliff top section including flower rich chalk grassland and the Crimean Seat which boasts one of the best views across Lyme Bay and the Undercliffs.

Walk Notes: Strenuous walking in remote and isolated environment. Rough terrain. Steep slopes. Walking boots essential. Bring a packed lunch and drink. You must be physically fit and able. Please declare any medical conditions when booking. Approximately 5 miles. No dogs.

Undercliffs Fossils and Fungi 

Sunday 1st September 2019

10am – 5pm, meeting at Holmbush car park, Lyme Regis

Take a whole day to walk the length of the Undercliffs NNR between Axmouth and Lyme Regis. We will spend half the time in the woodland looking for fungi and half the time on the foreshore looking at fossils and geology. An epic day out!
