Coppet Hill
Just three miles from the Jurassic Coast, and surrounded by some of Dorsets most spectacular hills, this 600-acre award-winning family farm is a peaceful haven for campers, glampers and wildlife lovers.
Coppet Hill Partnership started in August 2021 with George and Amanda being joined by their daughters Ellen and Pippa. The business focuses on managing the 600 acre farm (set in the Dorset National Landscape formally AONB) which until May 2021 was a dairy farm founded by Georges father in 1952.
The Family are now focussing on nature-friendly regenerative farming, as well as managing the camping and glamping sites which are open from May through September. Since the change of direction there has been a large increase in the biodiversity on the land. This has enabled the business to offer activities to guests such as Moth Club and Owl Prowls.
Coppet Hill offers an off grid family camping experience consisting of fourteen large pitches, 50 meters apart from their neighbours. Guests are provided with trolleys to take their luggage to their pitch before removing the cars from the field to ensure guests have a truly peaceful, serene experience. Each pitch has its own compost loo, fresh drinking water supply, picnic bench and firepit. This offers guests the chance to escape some of the pressures of modern life and reconnect with nature.
There are three individual glamping sites: two British made Landpods which can sleep 4 or 5 people, and one Belle Tent with a king size bed and two camp beds. The glamping sites come with their own bathroom with a hot shower, fully equipped alfresco kitchen, a firepit and picnic bench, as well as an outdoor wood fired bath.
Churchay Belle Tent is in a private meadow and has a king size bed; Little Coppet Landpod has panoramic views of the Vale, and Two Hoots Landpod is in a secluded spot next to its own pond.
In the centre of the farm is a field of sunflowers boarded by wildflowers which have been planted to encourage pollinators. A path is mown through the sunflowers and during August members of the general public are able to come and visit the farm, walk through the sunflowers and enjoy local ice cream, cake, tea and coffee from the Purcombe Barn the hub of the farm.
This barn overlooks the camping field and is also a great space for our guests. As well as the tea room, there is a small shop selling our own Coppet Hill sausages, and is a place the family can play table football, snooker, Jenga and many more indoor games. Theres even a Lego corner!
The Old Dairy provides three large shower rooms and a flushing loo, and a day room with a fridge, freezer, washing machine and charging points. There are also 2 electric car charging points there.
During the holidays guests can join the Coppet Hill team for Food Truck night in front of the Barn. Or you can take a farm tour with George on a tractor and trailer to see for yourself what happens on the land, visit the Saddleback pigs, the Jersey cows and see the effect of the Exmoor Ponies that graze down the grass and let the native plants and flowers grow. Or join Sebastian and Bea for Moth Club in the morning!
Coppet Hill is now in its 4th year and is thriving, not just welcoming campers and glampers, but also school groups and local community groups, where they come to learn about nature and spend time outdoors.
