Recently subjected to a restoration program of excellence, this is a holiday home specifically for the connoisseur.

Once the home of the butler to the owner of this gentleman’s country residence, having been converted from a building that originally contributed to the machinations of the neighbouring watermill, it now rejoices in its current renaissance as a self-catering holiday home of charisma, being an amalgam of historic conservation and 21st century facilities.

Intended to accommodate only couples, every care has been taken to offer generous proportions in an environment that would invoke feelings of a link with history without compromising on those modern-day comforts.

Entering via the French doors, the traditional flagstone floor (which was manually dressed in a Gloucestershire quarry) leads through the hand-painted fitted kitchen to the cosy lounge with it’s saddle-leather sofas and log burning stove where the incongruity of the Smart- Television is surprisingly comfortable in the presence of an antique desk and furnishings.

Outside, the private garden and courtyard hold another treat – a unique garden room to enable you to enjoy the open-air whatever the weather where, under a natural slate roof with its Victorian ridge, tranquillity can be found at any time of day or night and under twinkling starlight, the perfect end to a perfect day, whilst perhaps dining ‘Al-fresco’ might create holiday memories to last a lifetime.

Located an easy stroll across open fields from the beautifully unspoilt country town of Beaminster where restaurants, traditional pubs and small independent shops still prosper, The World Heritage Jurassic Coast at West Bay, Charmouth, Golden Cap and Seatown are all just a short drive away, as is the market town of Bridport with its bustling shopping facilities augmented by a traditional street market which has been held on Wednesdays and Saturdays since time immemorial.

Travel a little further east to Weymouth for the full-blown seaside beach experience, or the rustic delights of Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door or even Swanage, set in the Dorset jewel that is Isle of Purbeck.

If rough seas and a rugged coastline inspire you, perhaps you should experience the craggy rocky environment of Portland. Turn inland and you will find more places to visit than you could possibly see in one holiday… Monkey World at Wareham… The Tank Museum at Bovington… Hardy’s birthplace… the church linked to Lawrence of Arabia…

Head west for the evocative traditional seaside experience of a day at Lyme Regis, Seaton, Charmouth, Axminster town or even the city of Exeter, whilst West Bay (home of T.V.’s Broadchurch), Mapperton House, and the fossil beaches at Golden Cap and Charmouth are virtually on your doorstep.

Or maybe elect to just relax in your holiday utopia at Whatley… perhaps wander around the banks of our millpond… or… how about a snooze in the sun?
