The Jurassic Coast Trust (JCT) is the independent charity responsible for looking after the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Operating between Exmouth in East Devon and Swanage in Dorset, the JCT runs a series of public outreach events every year in order to communicate our work, and engage locals and visitors alike with the coastline’s incredible stories of rocks, fossils and landforms. We also promote learning through our website and membership magazine, Time to Inspire.
In this six month placement the JCT are looking for an enthusiastic, outgoing assistant to help with various areas of work. The role will provide information to the public about the Jurassic Coast and the JCT’s work, helping with their enquiries and signposting them to the right information. The post holder will collate information about activities along the coast and update the website.
The post holder will help inform people who would like to volunteer along the coast about the opportunities available in different locations and organisations, such as museums and visitor centres. This will involve liaising with various organisations to find out what is available.
When events recommence the post holder will assist the team member organising them, and where possible will attend them to help with the logistics (a small number are anticipated over the summer months). This could be a coastal walk or small festival where we provide information at a stall.
As the JCT team is small, the post holder would be expected to help with a variety of other tasks such as posting out online orders (mainly books) and writing about events and other activities for the website if desired. This position is ideal for someone wanting to get a foothold in charity work, public outreach, or project work.
The post will be based at the JCT’s office at Mountfield in Bridport, a lovely building overlooking Millennium Green and a short walk from the town’s high street.
