Many of the towns and villages along the Jurassic Coast are connected along the National Cycle Network, and this can be a great way to explore the area. Route 2 of the National Cycle Network runs across much of the south coast of England, and connects Studland at the east end of the Jurassic Coast with Exmouth in the west. Route 26 connects Weymouth with Dorchester, and runs further north into Somerset.
Visit the Sustrans website to find out more about the National Cycle network and to view the map. Please remember that the South West Coast Path National Trail is, in the main, not a cycle path or bridleway.
There are also hundreds of miles of bridleways near the Jurassic Coast which offer a great opportunity to explore off the beaten track. However, bridleways are usually unsurfaced and can get very muddy in poor weather, so you’ll need a sturdy bike with mud-friendly tyres, such as a mountain bike.

The Jurassic Coast is covered by Ordnance Survey Explorer maps 115, 116 and OL15. These maps will give you full details of where you can cycle on the Jurassic Coast and are available to buy in our Shop.
Cycle hire
There are a number of cycle hire shops along the coast, many of which will also be able to provide you with recommended routes in the area.
