With just 9 members of staff supported by a Board of Trustees, over 50 active volunteers and Ambassadors and 200 members, the Jurassic Coast Trust is a small charity, with a big responsibility!
With over 95 miles of coast designated as a World Heritage Site on account of its Outstanding Universal Value, our role is to protect and conserve World Heritage Site Status and to contribute to the local communities that live and thrive within it.
We are committed to our Vision, that everyone loves, understands and values the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, and deliver programmes of work which realise our Mission; to enable everyone to have the best possible experience of the Jurassic Coast, whether they want to learn, enjoy, work or study.
On a day to day basis this includes:
- Protecting the coast and its setting – For example, working in partnership with communities, businesses and statutory bodies to advise on scenarios that may impact the World Heritage Site.
- Engaging with people and organisations – For example, by delivering outreach programmes, touring fossil specimens, taking the Jurassic Coast to schools and community groups, and working with local businesses to help them become advocates for the Jurassic Coast.
- Deepening our understanding of, and people’s connections with, the Jurassic Coast – For example by providing meaningful and inspiring content that resonates with all audiences and establishes a pathway for long term engagement with the site and the Trust.
- Sustaining the organisation financially and demonstrating exemplary governance – For example, by implementing the World Heritage Site’s Partnership Plan as stipulated by UNESCO
Through our guidance, we help others to carry forward policies that are beneficial for the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. We provide opportunities for everyone to appreciate and understand our natural heritage, and strive to ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy it as we do now.
We do this by working in partnership with communities, businesses, landowners, statutory bodies, Foundations and Trusts, both regionally and nationally.
