Hugo Swire is the Member of Parliament for East Devon. Elected in June 2001, he has served as both a shadow opposition spokesperson and as a backbencher. Hugo is Chairman of the Conservative Middle East Council, Chairman of the All Party United Arab Emirates Group and Treasurer of the All Party Oman Group. In addition, he has been Chairman of the Speakers Advisory Committee on Works of Art since 2001.

Born in November, 1959 Hugo studied at St Andrews University before serving in the Armed Forces. He then worked in independent television and financial public relations before becoming the first Head of Development for the National Gallery. Following this, Hugo worked for the auction house Sotheby’s in London for nine years, five of those as a Director.

Hugo is an active participant in community life. Amongst many other roles, he is Vice President of the visual impairment charity West of England School and College, Patron of Devon Link up, Patron of Kennaway House in Sidmouth and a Council Member of the RNLI.
