The Old George Bed & Breakfast

About

The Old George is a grade II building of historic interest in the heart of the charming village of Broadwindsor in the Dorset AONB, a short drive from Bridport and the Jurassic coast. The Old George B&B provides a base to explore the delights of the unspoilt West Dorset countryside and is close to a number of walking routes including The Monarch’s Way and the highest point in Dorset; Lewesdon Hill. Our local amenities include a fantastic community pub, The White Lion, a community shop, a bakery and Redlands Yard which has a wonderful variety of shops and a cafe.

The Old George is a former public house and part of the original Castle Inn that King Charles II stayed in on the 23, Sept 1651 when he was escaping the Parliamentary forces of Oliver Cromwell en-route to France. The original inn was damaged by fire and rebuilt circa 1857 whereupon it traded as The George Inn.

Between 2022 and 2024 The Old George has been lovingly renovated by its owners who share an appreciation for the historical significance of the house and share a passion for hospitality, good food and Art.

Features of the house include a peaceful garden for afternoon tea and a cosy guest evening lounge and bar with wood burner. Breakfast is served in the dining room where the old bar is still a main feature. Breakfast consists of an array of fruit salads, juices, pastries, cereals and yoghurt with hot food cooked to order. All rooms and bathrooms are recently decorated to the highest standard and have mini fridges stocked with complimentary water and soft drinks. We have made particular effort to source artwork from Dorset Artists and each guest room provides wifi access, smart televisions and fluffy bathrobes.

We aim to make your stay with us as pleasurable and memorable as possible. As a licensed premises for guests we would be delighted to serve you local wines, beers, ciders, spirits and speciality cocktails in our William Morris inspired cosy bar lounge; The OG Bar.

There are three rooms available for your stay. Boscobel: En-suite roll top bath with double bed. Lewesdon: Ensuite roll top bath with king size bed. Pilsdon: Ensuite shower with super king size bed.
