Snail shell

Classic snail

The is a very distinctive and ‘classic’ gastropod or snail from the Jurassic period. Called Pleurotomaria, it has a very distinctive ‘stepped’ shell with strong ornamentation. Spectacular species still survive in the warm oceans today.

Although there is no record associated with this find, it is probably from the Corallian rocks near Osmington.
