Ammonite

Psiloceras planorbis marks the base of the Lias and the Jurassic system. This specimen is from the Somerset coast, and shows the crushed preservation which is normal with this ammonite. But it also contains some iridescence which is because the fine layers that make up the shell have been preserved and they scatter light to produce the rainbow colours.
