Ammonite

This ammonite is the zonal marker for the Spinatum Zone of the Upper Pleinsbachian stage of the Middle Lias. Good specimens of this ammonite are beautifully ornamented, and those found in Germany are particularly crisp when preserved in iron pyrite. The presence of the ammonite in German sediments allows us to correlate the ages of the rocks in the two countries.
