Plant Fossil Wood

This is a beautiful piece of wood fossilised as jet, with details of the outer bark preserved. Wood preserved in shale is typically compressed into jet black carbon. Unlike Whitby jet, which is hard, durable and can be carved into jewellery, Dorset jet tends to crumble and break.
