Plant leaf

This is a spectacular example of a tropical palm from the Plant Bed within the Poole Formation. The plants are preserved in a very fine clay that was deposited, or laid down, in a delta were a river met the sea. Obviously the leaves were carried down the river from lush, tropical forests inland. The same process can still be seen today.
