It’s day six already of our Jurassic Christmas staff picks. Today high-flyer Ted chooses the pterodactyl kite.
I’m a working cocker spaniel, and true to my name I work hard. I also like to play hard and the Jurassic Coast is my playground. I love walking, running and swimming on beaches and sand dunes. I also love chasing birds and anything that flies, so the pterodactyl kite would be my ideal Christmas gift – hours of fun!
Technically the pterodactyl never roamed the Dorset Jurassic Coast, but they did live during the Jurassic period. The Dorset Coast was however, home to the dimorphodon – another type of pterosaur – a family of flying reptiles. In fact the remains of a dimorphodon were found in Lyme Regis by none other than Mary Anning in 1828. It was the first UK discovery of a flying reptile. Anyway, let’s not let facts get in the way of a good time, because that’s what the pterodactyl kite offers. Just add wind.”
