The Jurassic Coast Trust and West Dorset Leisure Holidays are pleased to announce the winner of their winter holiday competition following a record-breaking number of entrants.

December 2021 marked the 20th anniversary of the inscription of the Jurassic Coast on to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

We recently announced that the Jurassic Coast Trust were inviting expressions of interest from individuals with the skills, experience and drive to volunteer as part of a working group that will help us to protect the palaeontological heritage of the Jurassic Coast through our Jurassic Coast Collection.

Thousands of holidaymakers at one of Dorset 's holiday park operators have achieved a remarkable fundraising landmark, raising nearly £100,000 since 2008 for the Jurassic Coast Trust, helping to protect, conserve and educate people about the Jurassic Coast.

On the morning of 9th November at 7.33 am there was a large rockfall at West Bay, captured by the Environment Agency camera and shown on the Bournemouth News site. At the time there were swimmers on the beach who witnessed the fall and could confirm they had not seen anyone walking along that stretch.
 

The Jurassic Coast Trust is pleased to announce the next phase of the Jurassic Coast Collection: the establishment of a Working Group who will act as an advisory body responsible for making recommendations and providing advice in relation to this work.
 

As enormous three-toed, meat-eating dinosaurs roamed a shallow swamp environment around what is now Swanage, preying upon large plant-eating sauropod dinosaurs, around 140 million years ago, they left traces of their existence.   These dinosaur footprints were left by members of the Megalosauridae family (likely Megalosaur) during a period known as the Lower Cretaceous.

It was a very difficult and challenging weekend on the Jurassic Coast. The shocking events which took place at Durdle Door made the headlines, requiring a significant response from emergency services. The lack of respect for our coastline shown by some has deeply saddened our local communities and visitors alike.

Iron pyrite, better known as fool’s gold, is a mineral with a superficial resemblance to gold, and can be found in the fossils and rocks of the Jurassic Coast, in particular around Charmouth.  Some of the most beautiful ammonites are those pyrite fossils that have been polished up to shine like jewels.
